Addis Ababa
The Addis Ababa bungalows depict what is known as the “Addis Ababa style” towards the turn of the century. The bungalows are somewhat fanciful and modern with a unique roof shape and covered wooden balconies on the upper stories. These rooms have a double bed.

Afar
In the Afar region, the huts are usually made of branches or mats so that they can easily be transported by camel from one seasonal pasture to the next. They also have small domed constructions to provide protection from the very low night temperatures. These huts either have twin beds or a double bed.

Amhara
The Amhara huts are stone walled and have thatched roofs, due to lack of timber on the high plateaus. The Amhara huts have twin beds.

Agnuak
The Agnuak, also known as Anyuak, Anuak and Anywaa; hut is circular and is noted for having inscribed and colored designs around the walls. It has a tall grass roof, making the Anuak hut stand out. The Anuak rooms either have twin beds or a double bed.

Dorze
The Dorze bungalow has a large beehive shape and a very high roof. The bungalow is woven from split bamboo and has protruding poles that are used as scaffolding for construction and repair. A family bungalow, a room with a double bed, a loft able to accommodate three people and a living room.

Gurage
The Gurage hut is circular with a beautifully thatched, steep roof with a pot mounted on the apex. The hut stands in its own immaculately clean compound. The Gurage rooms have twin beds.

Keficho
The Keficho hut is usually built of wattle and dub. It has a veranda supported by wooden posts and the Keficho craftsmen decorate the white walls with symbolic designs using vegetable dyes. The Keficho hut has twin beds.

Konso
The Konso hut is located behind walls of narrow alleys that connect farming households, artisans, the market place and the communal recreation ground. This is a family hut with a double bed in one room, twin beds in another and a living room.

Oromo
The Oromo hut has a high content of wood and bamboo and is thatched. This is a large family hut with a room with twin beds, a room with a double bed and a spacious living room.

Robe
The Robe rooms were built during the 1940’s by the late emperor Haile Sellasie. These renovated modern rooms are very spacious and have large old-fashioned bathtubs and very high roofs. Robe rooms have twin and double beds.

Sidama
The false banana (musa ensete) and bamboo provide construction material for the beautifully woven huts of the Sidama people living in and around the southern part of the Rift Valley. The Sidama huts have twin beds.

Tigray
The Tigray bungalow is stone built, or built into hillsides to conserve land, in the Tigray region. The Tigray room is a family room with a loft with a single bed, a room with a double bed and a living room.

Wolayita
The Wolayita hut is beehive shaped with a tall thatched roof and plenty of space. The plaited structure and concentric rings of the roof framework appear wonderfully intricate and neat. A family hut that has a room with twin beds, a room with a double bed and a living room.
